Penampang Cemetery

Myself after meditation in Penampang Cemetary. Behind me was a grave.

Chapter 1 - Conquering the Penampang Cemetery

M informed me of an incident where the friends of her cousins went to a cemetery at night, ended up being haunted by evil spirits. M said when they were in the cemetery they saw the spirits coming down towards them from the hills. They were really scared that they made a quick dash to their car and drove off in a hurry. The spirtits kept following them, and even while sending their car to a car wash center, they can see the spirits staring at them. They felt sick too. At the end, they went to a Shaman and they were advised by the Shaman to sacrifice a chicken to release themselves from that evil spirits.

M told me that if I really wanted to see a spirit, for sure, 100 percent guaranteed my desire would be fulfiilled if I go to that cemetery.

I asked where that cemetery was?

She said it was in Penampang. She was willing to send us there but she would not be joining us. She was afraid she might need to sacrifice a chicken, I thought.

I was elated to hear such place full of agressive spirits existed. I have been to a cemetery before, alone from 9 pm till 5 am, but no spirits approached me, I guess the spirits were kind of shy towards me.

I asked what was the exact time they went to the cemetery?

She didn't know. I asked her to check with her cousin.

So the night came when M was willing to send us there. The date was 8/4/2009. M and her cousin C, dropped myself and R, at the gate of the Penampang cemetery, around 9.30 pm. They quickly drove off leaving us there.

Once M and C had driven off then I realised I chose the wrong nite. It was full moon.

But we just carried on, if the ghosts here were aggressive, they didn't care about full moon. I said to myself.

We chose a spot on a lane that was going up the hill. Only this area seemed not to be covered by the moonlight as there were many trees. The graves were on the left side of the lane. All were on the slope of a hill.

I unfolded my plastic sheet, placed it on the ground and we sat down on it. We placed the offering (Sirih Pinang, tobacco and traditional cigarettes) in front of us and recited our own mantra or wirid, with rosary beads in our hands. We quickly went into a meditative state and waited patiently for any ghost to appear.

We waited and waited patiently while reciting our mantra or wirid.

Patiently we waited. But no ghost was willing to appear. No spirit wanted to materialise in front of us.

R didn't see anything either, nor did he feel the suspense and thrill like in Bukit Kinarut or in Gua Penindukan/Keningau Forest.

Did the spirits think it was suicidal to appear in front of us?. M once asked me what would I do if the ghosts appear and disturb me? I said I would recite the Ruqyah (selected Quran verses) to burn any jin or satan that would dare to disturb us. Did they overheard me?

Or was it because of the full moon? Is it true that ghosts won't appear if there is a full moon? As they are the princes and princesses of the darkness.

Or was it because of we arrived too early? Some say ghosts only appear after midnight, but some say, ghosts appear between 7 to 9, as that's the time they go to work, and by 9.30 pm, they are already in their offices or workplaces, working like we do. Did we miss the perfect moment?

At 12.30 am, M rang R's hp saying that she was on her way to pick us up.

We packed our things and waited for M to come. While waiting, I took several pictures of myself posing on the graveyards.

M came and picked us up. When we got in into her car she said "What is this smell?"

"What smell?" I said. "Isn't it the smell of my perfume?" I used a thousand flower perfume, good for attracting any female spirit.

"No, its a corpse like smell." M said.

I kept quiet. Was something following us?

Chapter 2 - Revenge of the Evil Spirits

M fell sick. I suspected she was 'keteguran' (the bad energy of the spirit has got into her body) from the last visit to the Penampang Cemetery.

I urged M to see Father M, to check whether or not she was 'keteguran' but she didn't have the time.

She said C also fell sick but C refused to believe she was 'keteguran'. M asked C to accompany her to see Father M, but she said it was just a normal fever and she didn't want to go.

I asked M why wasn't any ghost appeared to us when we went there unlike the friends of her cousin who saw the ghosts at the cemetery and the ghosts haunted them wherever they went after that.

She said she had talked to her cousin about that and her cousin replied that we were too early. They went there way after midnight hour.

I told M, that was why I told her to check on the time first to duplicate exactly the same scenario. Now I was not satisfied. I needed to go back.

To release M from her sickness, I suggest M to send a chicken to the cemetery. M wanted to send a live chicken, but she was afraid to bring live chicken in her car. So she brought a fried chicken instead from a famous fast food restaurant and left it in the cemetery for the ghosts to feast on.

Chapter 3 - Return to The Penampang Cemetery

This time I choosed the night when there was no moon and after midnight. The date choosen was 1/5/2009. Friday nite. Malam Jumat Wage.

So when the night came, M sent us to the Penampang cemetery just before midnight.

After she left, we went in. Sure enough it was a very dark that night, giving us a chilling feeling of eerie.

We chose a spot on the lane going up the hill, although not the same spot like last time.

I unfolded my plactic sheet for us to sit down and setlled down. R was facing uphill while I was facing downhill. We placed the offering in front of us, and recited our mantra/wirid.

R saw something at the beginnging like white clouds in the form of a group of humans not far from him. But then it disappeared before if fully materialised. I saw only patches of white energy. The sounds of falling dead leaves and branches sometimes startled us and made our heartbeat go faster, but that was all to it. Nothing more.

Around 2.30 am, we packed our things, headed towards the cemetery gate and waited for M to pick us up.

M came shortly afterwards.

I bid farewell to Penampang Cemetery.

Rest in peace.
